About Clare Dundrow

I hold a Diploma in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling and am a Registered Member of BACP (Registered Member MBACP)

I abide by the BACP's Ethical Framework which means I value the best practices for the safety and effectiveness of our work together.

As an integrative counsellor & psychotherapist, I draw on a few different therapeutic models in my client work. Below is a brief outline of the main ways I'll be working and how they could help you...

Person Centred

I believe human beings have an in-built ability to develop towards their full potential. However, this ability can become blocked or distorted by our life experiences and we can become stuck.

I will work with you to understand your experience from your point of view. I will be open and genuine. Its very important to me that you feels accepted unconditionally. This way you can better understand your own feelings. This can help you reconnect with your sense of self-worth, and take steps to move forward.

Psychodynamic

The aim of psychodynamic therapy is to bring the unconscious mind into consciousness. I will help you to unravel, experience and understand these true, deep-rooted feelings and try to resolve them. Our unconscious holds onto painful feelings and memories, which are too difficult for the conscious mind to process. In order to ensure these memories and experiences do not surface, we develop defences, like denial, or project our feelings onto others as 'their problem'. We can make significant changes in how we make decisions and interact with others in our lives.

Transactional Analysis

Through observation and exploration of interactions with others we can start to learn a lot about ourselves starting with what ego states (Parent, Adult or Child) are driving how we communicate. We’ll pay particular attention to your relational communication. The aim is to strengthen your inner Adult, to further enhance communication to have better relationships.

I primarily work in the following areas:

Bereavement & loss

Attachment

Relational difficulties/repetitive patterns of relating/trauma in younger years

Anxiety

Depression & low mood

Lack of confidence and low self esteem

Supervision

I hold a Level 7 Diploma in Integrative Supervision of Individuals and Groups.

My philosophy of supervision is rooted in the importance of the supervisory alliance.

I offer my supervisees a regular, formal and collaborative space to reflect on their client work to ensure they are practicing responsibly, safely and ethically.

I cultivate trust, openness, genuineness, and empathy.

I encourage vulnerability and the use of our authentic selves.

I believe supervision should create a learning environment and I support my supervisees in their professional development and to be more effective counsellors to their clients.

I am integrating theories that underpin my work as a therapist, namely Person-Centred, Psychodynamic and Transactional Analysis and am therefore drawn to considering supervision from a mixture of these modalities.
